Firearm Safety

5/6/2015

This is a list that any responsible firearm owner/instructor will give you. If an instructor doesn't have a similar list, find another instructor.

1. Treat ALL firearms as if they were loaded.

Always inspect the weapon before handling it. Even if the person handing it over swears its clear.

2. Point firearms in a safe direction.

Never point a firearm at something you are not willing to destroy.

3. Never place your finger on the trigger until you are on target.

Thanks to movies, and irresponsible trainers, many have learned to draw a firearm with the finger on the trigger. THIS IS WRONG, AND A BAD HABIT TO BREAK.

4. Know your target and what is beyond it.

Just because you can't see anything a few feet beyond your target, doesn't mean that it is safe to shoot. ALWAYS check before shooting.

Bottom Line: Practice firearm safety, ALWAYS.
